The story
Painted over eleven mornings in early spring, when the first birds returned to the valley behind the studio. Every morning began the same way — one cup, ground by hand — and the ring it left on the studio table is still there, under the third panel of gold. The gold was added last, a quiet acknowledgement that some passages of a journey only reveal their value long after they end.
Technique
Built in thin oil glazes over an impasto ground, then broken open with a palette knife while still soft. The deepest glaze is tinted with the same roasted browns used for the coffee covers, and the gold leaf is laid directly into wet paint so it fractures rather than shines.
Inspiration
Migration routes, dried olive branches, the shape a cherry takes before it is picked, and the particular silence of a house before sunrise.
