The story
A red sun caught inside blossom, a snow-capped cone across still water. Painted in one continuous week in spring, when the branches outside the studio were doing the same thing.
Technique
Soft airy ground laid first and left almost untouched, then blossom built petal by petal in thick opaque paint so the flowers physically sit above the sky.
Inspiration
Cherry season, distant volcanoes, and the way a red circle finishes a composition.
